Filming

Better not to use the iPhone camera app when filming, but it is easier.

  • The FiLMiC Pro app allows the user to establish manual focus and exposure separately, choose different aspect ratios (screen shapes), frame rates and video quality, adjust color balance, display overlays to help with exposure and focus, and even ‘pull focus’. The user can turn off video stabilization to get the full benefit of the iPhone’s 29mm lens (stabilization crops the image).
  • The ImageMaker app is a free filming app. While not as elaborate as Filmic Pro it does allow manual control and the ability to turn off stabilization.
  • The Adobe Premiere Rush app includes a camera app with manual control options and a choice of frame rates.

Light

Lighting makes an incredible difference in the visual quality of your video.

Audio

Smartphone microphones are more reliable at close distances, but not ideal.
